Imagery and Language: Learning English; Adrift in Hawaii

Guide to Color Code

You will notice that each of your posts have been or will shortly become color coded. After you post and when I have time, I go through each post and color code your errors. Some of these errors are quite easy to fix and for your to understand, while others require not simply a correct form of the word or spelling, but a different word or a new sentence structure, for example. In such cases, there is not single “right” answer and you’ll have to play around until you find something that sounds more natural.

Do not fix the errors in the main post; rather fix them in the comment area beneath so that I can compare your work.

I am truly excited about this project and hope that through keeping up with this blog you not only create something that you can look back on and remember your time in Hawaii but also that you become an active participant in the process of learning English.

Color Code:

  1. Tense Error- there is a problem with either the verb tense or time frame of the sentence.
  2. Strange Word Order- the word order is either not standard English or is strange and unnatural
  3. Wrong Word- the word you have chosen is not the best. This may be the most difficult to correct.
  4. Misspelled- This is the easiest because if you notice, there is a spellchecker on each post page
  5. Unnecessary- Self-explanatory
  6. Word Form Error- the form of the word is incorrect. For example: like instead of liking or quick instead of quickly
  7. ?- Missing word or punctuation (commas, periods, semicolons, etc…)
  8. capitalization-a word will be underlined if you have the incorrect capitalization Remeber in English, ENGLISH is capitalized as are I and PROPER NOUNS only

If you are unclear about anything or have any questions, please post them in the comment area under the post and I will get back to you as soon as I can.

Remember this is supposed to be fun so let’s make it fun!
